Autumn 2025

The astrology of nations resides in the intricate and fascinating world of mundane astrology, a specialized branch that focuses on the celestial influences affecting countries and their events. This field is not only the oldest but also the most complex of all astrological practices, weaving together the cosmic and terrestrial realms in a rich tapestry of interpretation. At the heart of this practice lies the solar ingress charts, which serve as essential tools for astrologers who seek to understand and predict the unfolding of political, social, and economic changes within nations. These charts are meticulously crafted to plot the movements of celestial bodies as they relate to earthly events, revealing how the cosmic forces in our immediate universe govern the phenomena we experience on our planet.

Among the various types of ingress charts, those that mark the transitions from one season to the next hold particular significance. In the realm of tropical astrology, these pivotal moments are associated with the cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn—representing the beginnings of the four seasons. Each of these signs serves as a sacred checkpoint in our endless annual journey around the Sun, symbolizing not just the changing of the seasons, but also the shifts in energy and focus that accompany them. The Aries ingress, which coincides with the spring equinox, heralds the astrological new year and is a time of renewal and fresh beginnings. It is during this period that astrologers can glean valuable insights into the energies influencing the nation’s trajectory for the coming months.

To gain insight into the specific energies that might be unfolding for a particular nation, astrologers employ a technique that involves casting a chart for the capital city of that country. This practice is vital in mundane astrology, as it allows for a detailed examination of how celestial events correlate with terrestrial occurrences.

An important aspect to consider when interpreting these charts is the duration of their influence, which varies based on the zodiacal sign that is rising at the time of the ingress. For instance, when interpreting an Aries ingress chart, such as the one for the spring equinox and the astrological new year (which I did for March 2025), you can access the detailed analysis here: Blame it on Caesar ~ Aries Ingress 2025. If a cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn) is rising, the chart's influence is effective for only 3 months, lasting until the next solar ingress chart, which would be Cancer, or the summer solstice. Conversely, if a mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces) is rising, the chart remains valid for 6 months, extending until the Libra ingress, also known as the autumnal equinox. Lastly, if a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius) is rising, the Aries ingress chart holds sway for a full twelve months, continuing until the subsequent Aries ingress.

Looking ahead, the autumnal equinox in Washington, DC, in 2025 will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:19 PM local time (Eastern Daylight Time). This significant moment is also referred to as the Libra Ingress, marking a critical juncture in the astrological calendar. It represents the mid-point of the astrological year, a time when the forces of light and dark are perfectly balanced. This balance is symbolic of the transition we undergo as we move from the brightness of summer into the depths of winter, leading us toward the longest night and shortest day that occurs at the Winter Solstice. The Libra Ingress not only signifies a shift in the seasons but also invites reflection on the themes of partnership, balance, and harmony, which are central to the energies of Libra. As we approach this pivotal moment, the insights gleaned from the ingress charts can provide profound understanding and guidance for the unfolding events in the nation and beyond.

It's also important to understand that these movements of the Sun through the signs of the zodiac are, of course, caused by the real revolution of the Earth in its annual orbit around the Sun. This intricate dance of celestial bodies is not merely a matter of observation; it is a fundamental aspect of our understanding of time and the changing seasons. As the greatest luminary in our universe, the Sun's northward and southward passage in declination across the equator between the two solstices plays a pivotal role in this cosmic ballet. The significance of these movements can be attributed to the fact that the Earth's axis is inclined to that of the Sun at an angle of 23 degrees 27 minutes.

This axial tilt is crucial because it creates the varying intensities of sunlight that we experience throughout the year, leading to the seasonal changes that influence the environment, agriculture, and even human behavior. The effects of this axial tilt can be observed in the length of daylight, temperature fluctuations, and the natural cycles of flora and fauna, all of which are intricately tied to the Sun’s position in relation to the Earth.

Of all four ingress charts, the Aries Ingress is considered most important by mundane astrologers. This particular ingress marks the onset of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and is traditionally viewed as a time of renewal and rebirth. It is important to study them all, as each ingress offers unique insights into the energies and themes that will dominate the coming year, but this Aries Ingress is widely accepted as a horoscope for the entire year. Its significance is underscored by the fact that in 2025, this chart had a fixed sign rising, Aquarius, which is associated with stability, innovation, and a forward-thinking approach.

The Earth's Obliquity
The Earth's Obliquity

This fixed sign rising is interpreted to govern all twelve months between the Spring Equinoxes of 2025 and 2026, suggesting a year characterized by the potential for lasting change and the establishment of new foundations. The other ingress charts, which include the Cancer Ingress, Libra Ingress, and Capricorn Ingress, are considered subordinate to this chart in influence, serving as additional layers of interpretation that can provide further context and nuance to the overarching themes set forth by the Aries Ingress.

With that understanding, let's see what new information might be available to us from an examination of the Libra Ingress of 2025. The Libra Ingress, occurring at the Autumn Equinox, offers insights into the themes of balance, harmony, and relationships that will become prominent as the year progresses. It is an opportunity to reflect on how the energies initiated at the Aries Ingress will manifest in the latter part of the year, particularly in terms of interpersonal dynamics and societal structures. By analyzing the astrological configurations present in the Libra Ingress, we can glean valuable information about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, allowing us to navigate the complexities of the upcoming months with greater awareness and intention.

Immediately, the most striking initial observation I have concerning this ingress chart is the fact that the ascendant/descendant axis is positioned at 29 degrees and 15 minutes. This particular degree is known as the anaretic degree, a term that carries significant weight in astrological interpretations. The anaretic degree signifies urgency and a sense of finality, as it indicates that something is coming to a close or is in the process of being completed. Additionally, it is imbued with karmic undertones, suggesting that the energies at play are not merely coincidental but rather the culmination of past actions and decisions that are now demanding attention. This degree often acts as a pivotal point, highlighting the need for resolution and the potential for transformation.

In the realm of mundane astrology, the Ascendant and Descendant represent fundamental opposites that reflect how a nation or place perceives itself in relation to the outside world. The ascendant is intricately associated with the self-image, public identity, and outward appearance of the country, city, or entity in question. Essentially, it serves as the “face” or persona that the nation projects globally, shaping how it is perceived by others. This projection can influence everything from international relations to cultural exports, as the ascendant embodies the qualities that a nation wishes to showcase to the world.

Contrastingly, the descendant symbolizes the country's relationships with others—foreign nations, allies, enemies, and partners. It reflects the external influences that impact the nation’s identity and character, encompassing diplomatic affairs, conflicts, and alliances that shape the country’s overall experience. This axis is crucial in understanding the dynamics of interaction that a country engages in on the global stage. The descendant can indicate the nature of outside challenges or partnerships that the country must navigate for balance or growth. It serves as a mirror to the ascendant, revealing how external perceptions and interactions can influence a nation's internal identity and vice versa.

Have I got your attention yet? As we approach the balance point of the Autumnal Equinox, it seems that the very topics listed above are also hanging in the balance and reaching an urgent inflection point. The timing of this ingress, marked by the anaretic degree, suggests that we are on the cusp of significant change. An important point concerning the 29th degree in astrology is that it represents a threshold; it signals the end of one phase and the imminent beginning of another, often bringing profound change or upheaval. This transitional energy can manifest in various ways, from shifts in political landscapes to changes in societal values, as the pressures of unresolved issues come to the forefront. The urgency of this degree compels nations to confront their challenges, make necessary adjustments, and prepare for the new realities that lie ahead.

My next observation is that the Sun, Moon, and Mercury are all positioned in the 9th house under the sign of Libra. It is crucial to understand the roles of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in mundane astrology, as they each represent significant facets of national and societal dynamics. To recap, the Sun symbolizes the leader of a government, such as the prime minister of Great Britain or the president of the United States, embodying authority, power, and the overarching direction of a nation. The Moon, on the other hand, represents the populace, particularly those engaged in a nation's political life, reflecting the emotional undercurrents and public sentiment that influence governance and policy. A key point about both the Sun and Moon is that the houses they occupy or govern highlight the national life areas that are particularly emphasized during the chart's influence; more on this shortly. Mercury, the third member of this trio, embodies a nation's intellectual aspect in all its forms. It includes intellectuals and creative thinkers, media personalities, and opinion leaders within a society, serving as a bridge between ideas and the public. Mercury is also linked to laws, regulations, treaties, and agreements at national and international levels, underscoring its role in diplomacy and legislative matters. Lastly, Mercury signifies all types of communication and transportation, including the news media and, in contemporary times, the internet, which plays a pivotal role in shaping public discourse and information dissemination. As mentioned, the house where Mercury resides and the areas it governs indicate the national life sectors it most significantly affects, making its placement particularly noteworthy in this context.

Let's now address this stellium of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in the 9th house. The 9th house in mundane astrology consists of an interesting potpourri of topics that are vital to the functioning and evolution of a society. It is the house of the national judiciary, especially the highest court, which interprets and upholds the law, ensuring justice and order. It is also the house of religion, particularly the established religion of a nation, which often plays a crucial role in shaping cultural values and societal norms. Furthermore, it governs universities and higher education, institutions that are fundamental in fostering knowledge, innovation, and critical thinking. Additionally, the 9th house oversees maritime affairs, air travel, and space travel, reflecting humanity's aspirations to explore beyond terrestrial boundaries. Finally, this is the house of astrology, a discipline that seeks to understand the influence of celestial bodies on human affairs. An easy way to think about the 9th house is as a realm of lofty ideals and distant pursuits; it is where a nation attempts to transcend to something higher, whether through knowledge, spirituality, or exploration.

Starting then with the 9th house of the Libra ingress chart, we find that Virgo is on the cusp of this house, and its ruler, Mercury, is also domiciled in the 9th house in the sign of Libra. Mercury's placement here makes it peregrine, residing in a place where it has no dignity at all, which in mundane astrology counts as a debility. This lack of dignity suggests that the affairs of the 9th house may not operate at their full potential or effectiveness. What is helpful in this instance is Mercury's conjunction with the Moon (a Benefic), which lends a helping hand to Mercury's weak condition, potentially allowing for some positive developments amidst challenges. Further complicating the picture, Mercury's proximity to the Sun, being within 8 degrees, causes it to be combust, which constitutes a further debility. This combustion signifies that the affairs of the 9th house for the period from the Autumnal equinox until the Spring equinox in 2026 will be challenged, presenting a mixed bag of outcomes. Also noteworthy is that Mercury is parallel to Saturn (a Malefic), which occurs when two planets or points are at the same declination north or south of the celestial equator. This alignment means they are positioned vertically relative to the Earth’s equator rather than along the zodiacal longitude. Parallels are often described as similar to conjunctions, with energies that reinforce or blend between the planets involved; however, this particular aspect must be considered hostile in nature given its association with Saturn.

According to the esteemed mundane astrologer Joseph Michael Greer, one of the most important rules to remember about traditional mundane astrology is to consider:

"The condition of the planet that rules each house, modified by the nature and condition of any planets in that house, reveals the condition of the affairs of that house for the period indicated by the chart."

What this then points to is that the matters listed above pertaining to the 9th house will likely be less than smooth for the period in question. This means that we will potentially see challenging times nationally in the realms of the high court, religion, universities, maritime affairs, air travel, and space travel. The implications here are significant, as they suggest a period of turbulence and uncertainty that could affect legal decisions, educational policies, and even international relations. Selfishly, I sure hope that astrology, as a discipline, remains unscathed amidst these challenges. Unfortunately, at the time I am writing this blog, we have witnessed a horrific assassination take place on a university campus on September 10th, just yesterday, which seems to correspond to what this Libra ingress chart is indicating, albeit we are still 11 days removed from it. This tragic event also ties into what has been discussed in previous blogs regarding potentialities associated with the Saturn/Neptune conjunction, which has historically been highly correlated with great social unrest and conflict. The convergence of these astrological influences suggests a complex and potentially tumultuous period ahead, one that will require careful navigation by both leaders and the populace alike.

Delving deeper into the planetary bodies present in the 9th house, we can gather more information. It's crucial to note that when the Sun is in Libra, it is traditionally in a state of Fall in astrology, which means its natural qualities and strengths are reduced or challenged, making it difficult for the planet to express its optimal energy and function within the chart. In mundane astrology, a debilitated Sun (representing the President of the United States in this chart) brings undue political pressures on the courts, universities, and religious bodies and can also signal scandals and unfavorable publicity involving one or more of these. It can also pose challenges for a nation's space program, and astrologers often face difficulties with this placement. Given the Sun's rulership of the 8th house in this ingress chart, these same challenges and difficulties may also arise in matters of foreign trade and investment, trade and economic treaties, and all forms of economic exchange between nations. On a more ominous note, this is also the house of death, where leading politicians are entangled in this energetic matrix.

For a more detailed interpretation of the Libra Sun in the 9th house, we need to examine the various aspects being made to it, as these aspects can significantly influence its expression and manifestation. Unfortunately, in this particular configuration, there are no clear angels appearing to assist in the unfolding narrative. The first troublesome aspect that demands our attention is an opposition made to the Sun by the malefic planet Saturn. According to the insights of mundane astrologer John Michael Greer, this astrological alignment has traditionally been interpreted as a sign of a loss of power and popularity for the government or its head. Greer elaborates, stating that such an opposition can lead to obstacles and delays confronting the nation's affairs, resulting in conflict between the two houses of the legislature. The economy may stagnate or suffer a downturn, which could lead to widespread dissatisfaction among the populace. Furthermore, the social life and activities of the privileged classes are often overshadowed by depression, or they may become subject to various misfortunes that arise during this tumultuous period. This paints a rather bleak picture of the socio-political landscape when the Sun is under the oppressive gaze of Saturn.

If you have been following along with previous blogs, you are likely aware of the very important and unique conjunction taking place between Saturn and Neptune. This conjunction is noteworthy and its implications are profound, affecting not only personal lives but also the broader societal framework. For those interested in delving deeper into this fascinating topic, further insights can be found here: https://www.theclevelandshaman.com/post/the-collision-of-bricks-and-bubbles.

The second aspect contributing to this opposition is from Neptune, which is considered by many astrologers to be the most unfortunate indication in a mundane chart. The Sun receiving a hostile aspect from Neptune can lead to a myriad of complications. H.S. Green succinctly summarized this dynamic by stating that it often signifies "something in the nature of a downfall or collapse takes place." This aspect is particularly concerning as it tends to manifest confusion, disorder, and the failure of legislation or policy, which can be expected during such times of celestial tension. John Michael Greer further elaborates that this alignment might bring lurid scandals to light, revealing hidden truths that have been obscured. This aspect is also indicative of unpopularity and misfortune for those in positions of power, suggesting that important political figures may find themselves at risk, facing challenges that could undermine their authority and influence.

When we analyze the positioning of Saturn and Neptune in opposition to the Sun in the 9th house, we find that these planets are domiciled in the 3rd house of the astrological chart. The 3rd house is of great significance as it governs a nation's internal transportation, communications, and media. This encompasses a wide range of sectors, including the internet and all economic activities related to these areas. Furthermore, it is the house that reflects a nation's relationships with neighboring countries, particularly those with which it shares land borders or very close sea borders. The implications of this positioning are profound, as it suggests that the challenges arising from the opposition may not only affect internal dynamics but also have repercussions on international relations and trade. The interplay of these planets in the 3rd house indicates a time when communication may falter, transportation systems could be disrupted, and the flow of information may be clouded by the chaos generated by the ongoing opposition. This complex web of astrological influences highlights the interconnectedness of personal, national, and global affairs during this tumultuous period.

Another highly notable aspect in the Libra Ingress chart for 2025 takes us back to the beginning of this blog, where we observe the ascendant and descendant positioned at the anaretic 29th degree. This particular degree is often associated with a sense of urgency and culminates in a significant turning point, indicating that the energies at play are reaching a critical moment. The Sun, which in this context represents our President, is found in a tight applying T-Square aspect to this axis. This configuration implies that the President occupies a pivotal position at the apex of a complex dynamic, characterized by tension between the nation's identity and its relationships with foreign countries.

T-squares are astrological configurations that symbolize tension, conflict, and pressure among the planetary energies involved. In this case, the Sun, representing leadership and authority, is in an antagonistic aspect with two of the chart's most important angles: the ascendant and descendant. This suggests that the President may be facing significant challenges in balancing domestic priorities with international obligations, as the energies of the Sun are at odds with the foundational elements of the nation’s identity and its interactions on the global stage.

Moreover, as mentioned earlier, the Sun is part of a conjunction with the Moon and Mercury. This trio of planetary bodies brings additional layers of meaning to the situation. The Moon represents the emotional undercurrents and public sentiment, while Mercury embodies communication, intellect, and the exchange of ideas. The conjunction of these three celestial bodies seems to create a powerful metaphor at this time, highlighting the interconnectedness of leadership, public feelings, and the necessity for clear communication.

The tension inherent in the T-Square may manifest as a struggle to articulate a cohesive national identity while navigating the complexities of international diplomacy. The President, embodying the Sun's energy, may find themselves in a position where their decisions are scrutinized not only for their immediate effects but also for their long-term implications on both domestic and foreign fronts. As the Moon influences the public’s emotional responses, it becomes crucial for the President to gauge and respond to the sentiments of the populace, ensuring that their leadership resonates with the collective consciousness.

Furthermore, Mercury's presence in this conjunction suggests that effective communication will be paramount during this period. The ability to convey ideas clearly and persuasively will be essential for the President as they seek to bridge the gap between the nation's aspirations and the realities of global relations. The culmination of these astrological influences points to a time of significant pressure and potential conflict, but also an opportunity for growth and transformation as the President navigates these challenging waters. The interplay of these energies serves as a reminder of the delicate balance required in leadership, especially in a time when the stakes are particularly high.

Sun, Mercury, Moon Stellium in Libra
Sun, Mercury, Moon Stellium in Libra

Digging deeper into this intriguing trio of celestial bodies, we find that they all reside in the sign of Libra, a placement that carries significant implications. In the realm of mundane astrology, the zodiacal sign itself often holds less weight than the planetary bodies and the intricate aspects that exist between them in a given chart. The planets, along with their respective aspects, are prioritized in interpretation, as they provide the core dynamics that shape events and experiences on a collective level. However, the signs that these planets inhabit are not without their importance; they lend crucial context regarding the style, quality, and flavor through which planetary energies manifest in world events, the evolution of nations, or broader societal situations. In this specific instance, the grouping of three celestial entities residing in Libra hints at the emergence of new initiatives or beginnings within our collective life. Libra, being a cardinal sign, inherently suggests movement and the initiation of change. Furthermore, as an Air sign, Libra is indicative of intellectual, social, or technological advancements that could be on the horizon.

This combination of factors seems to forecast a dynamic shift where the energies at play are part of a larger intellectual, social, and technological movement poised to sweep across our nation, ultimately transforming our national identity and reshaping how other nations perceive us. When we take into account the 29-degree ascendant—representing the face we project globally—and the descendant, which symbolizes our relationships with other countries, it becomes clear that we are on the brink of experiencing profound changes and upheaval. The astrological configurations suggest that we are being pushed towards a significant threshold that could redefine our interactions and standing in the global community.

The portal through which this impending change must be processed is represented by the Moon, Mercury, and the Sun. The Moon symbolizes the populace, particularly the politically active segments of society, while Mercury embodies the intellectually inclined, the commentators, and the purveyors of mainstream opinions. The Sun, in this context, represents the head of state or the government, typically the president. In opposition to these three influential figures, we find Saturn and Neptune forming a historic conjunction, which adds another layer of complexity to the current astrological landscape. This conjunction is particularly noteworthy as it will reach its exact alignment on the "Aries Point," a significant marker in mundane astrology that is often viewed as a major reset, a generational threshold that will occur on February 20, 2026. As we approach the moment of the Autumnal Equinox, Saturn is found in retrograde motion within the mystical and spiritual sign of Pisces, while the idealistic and visionary Neptune is positioned in the assertive and combative sign of Aries. This juxtaposition of energies invites us to reflect on the broader implications of these planetary movements.

In the context of mundane astrology, Saturn embodies a multitude of themes, but its relevance in this particular chart seems to resonate with its association with rural and small-town populations, as well as the political and social forces that emerge from the hinterlands. John Michael Greer connects Saturn with the retiree demographic, highlighting its influence on those who are often overlooked in political discourse. H.S. Green attributes to Saturn the qualities of "will in action" and the characteristics of the "practical man, the man of action." Raphael expands on this by defining Saturn's energies in mundane astrology as representative of landowners and farmers. Collectively, these associations suggest that the individuals most impacted by these astrological configurations are those who may not be deeply entrenched in the political arena but are instead leading lives that are somewhat insulated from the clamor of the broader societal issues. They represent the common man, whose experiences and perspectives are often sidelined yet are crucial to understanding the shifts occurring in our collective reality.

On the other hand, Neptune in the context of mundane astrology governs mass phenomena and collective movements. In a mundane chart, Neptune symbolizes the trends and forces that emerge among groups of people who feel marginalized or excluded from the influential classes—the so-called elites. Those embodying Neptunian qualities are often the dreamers and visionaries, whose aspirations and opinions can catalyze significant populace movements that challenge the status quo. This duality of Saturn and Neptune presents a fascinating dynamic, as it encapsulates the tension between the grounded, practical concerns of the common populace and the ethereal, idealistic visions of societal change.

Are you beginning to see what I am observing here? Does this not resonate with the current state of affairs? The Libra Ingress chart is practically shouting its message, urging us to pay attention to the astrological patterns unfolding before us. There is an abundance of additional analysis that could be conducted on this chart, but I felt it was essential to share these preliminary findings. With each passing month in 2025, I find myself reiterating the momentous nature of the times we are navigating. The astrology itself articulates this, the developments we witness around us echo this sentiment, and the rapid pace of change and tumult reinforces it. However, it is important to remain steadfast and not to be discouraged. If you cultivate peace within yourself, this inner tranquility will serve as your anchor amid the chaos. We can only exert control over so much of our external circumstances. As the Serenity Prayer so beautifully encapsulates...

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."

A longer version adds:

"Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen."

Special Note: Just prior to the Libra Ingress of 2025 there will be a New Moon at the 29th degree of Virgo on September 21, 2025, marking the 7th New Moon since the Aries Ingress or Astrological New Year. I will be addressing that topic in Lunar Prompting VII. Below it is the chart for that New Moon.
