The Astrology of June

The month of June 2026 begins with fleet-footed Mercury slipping into the sign of Cancer on June 1st. Here, thoughts shift to the feeling level first. The cognitive process becomes an emotional one. Questions like, "How do I feel safe in a world that feels upside down?" or "What is my intuition telling me in this moment?" could arise. As Mercury ambles through the waters of Cancer, we may also find memories come rushing in, flooding our minds with familial stories and nostalgia. Adding to June's unfolding voyage of the messenger, two days later on June 3, the god that easily floats between two worlds meets a challenge, a square aspect from Neptune in Aries. This antagonistic and alchemical blend of fire, air, and water could stir up feelings that make us want to escape the 3-D, if only for a while. Our emotions could elicit the active pursuit of something more idyllic or dreamy, taking a leap of faith.
On June 9th, the goddess of love, beauty, and values, Venus, currently in Cancer, gets amplified when she joins up with the adventurous and expansive energies of a Cancer Jupiter. As with all astrological aspects, there are a multitude of potentialities. One of these is the possibility that matters of relationship, already highly emotive due to Venus' presence in Cancer, might go off and get overdone in some manner. There could be a sense that what is needed from others takes on some higher purpose as well. Being this is the sign of Jupiter's exaltation (like being the King's honored guest), the great benefic could bring good luck and optimism, ushering in some higher personal truth in all of our partnerships.
Whatever benefic and deeply emotive insights that Venus was motivated by just a few days ago shifts on June 13th when she steps into the limelight of Leo and wants to be seen and recognized. Here Venus becomes a bit more outward, flirtatious, and playful. Venus remains in Leo until July 9th. She may be prone to don beautiful clothing and adornments, seeking attention and appearing more dramatic in the eyes of others. In a mundane context, Venus is associated with financial matters as well as diplomacy, women and children's issues, and arts and culture. While Venus visits Leo we can expect these matters to take center-stage, wax cinematic, engulfed in the fixed fire of the Lion.
In the days immediately following Venus' ingress into Leo, she makes meaningful contact with all of the transpersonal planets. She forms a sextile to Uranus on June15, a trine to Neptune on June 16, and an opposition to Pluto on June 17. As many of you know, these three outer planets have been in a very powerful and unique configuration that is known a mini-grand trine. As Venus brushes up against this planetary alignment, she activates disruption, transformation, and visions connected all things relational, financial, and cultural.
This brings us to what I consider a highlight of June 2026 astrology, the ingress of Chiron (a planetoid) into Taurus. This will occur on June 19th. Chiron, mythologically the "wounded healer" has an elliptic orbit that carries it on its bridging path between Saturn and Uranus. Because of this "egg-shaped" journey its time in a sign varies widely. The following table summarizes this concept:
Aspect | Duration |
Full zodiac cycle | ~50–51 years (sometimes cited as 49–51 years) |
Average per sign | ~4–5 years, but this is misleading because it varies |
Longest stay | Aries: ~8 years (sometimes cited as 8–9 years) arawme+2 |
Second longest | Pisces: ~9 years (Chiron was in Pisces from 2016–2025 on-and-off) |
Shortest stay | Libra: ~1.5–2 years |
Other fast signs | Leo: ~2 years |
The last time Chiron was in Taurus was from May 1976 to June 1983 (with a brief retrograde dip back into Aries from October 1976 to March 1977). This period is rich with evidence of Chironic influence in Taurus matters. Let's dive deeper...
🏦 Economic & Financial Wounding
This time period was known as the Malaise Era and Currency Crisis. Starting in 1976 Britain was forced to seek a bailout from the IMF due to economic collapse, high inflation, unemployment, and strikes. It is noteworthy that recently the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has adjusted its growth forecast for the UK in 2026, reducing it from 1.3% to 0.8%. A historical echo?
Then in 1979 we had President Carter's famous "national malaise" speech, a crisis of confidence in America's economy and values. Remember the "gas lines"? Or the "sweater speech"?
There was also a huge monetary squeeze that occurred from 1979-1982 implemented by the Federal Reserve. Interest rates peaked in 1980 at 20%, inflation reached 13.6% in 1980, and the stock market declined from December 1979 through April 1983.
Interestingly and simultaneously, this period also had some paradoxes, as it was the rise of what became known as the "yuppie," who were wealthy, materialistic young urban professionals, living excessively while poverty and unemployment soared, adding a bit of salt to the wounds.
🌾 Food, Farming & Agriculture Wounding
In 1980 there was the famous "grain embargo" implemented against the Soviet Union (Russia falls under the umbrella of Taurus) in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The result, US grain prices collapsed, farmers rose up in protest and experienced devastation.
In 1981, there were food shortages in Poland. Huge demonstrations occurred mostly comprised of women and children (think Taurus) protesting the food rationing taking place.
In 1979 in China, a policy was initiated that became known as the household responsibility system that
replaced collective farming with household-based agriculture.
🛢️ Oil, Energy & Resource Wounding
Here is where it gets interesting. According to the book, The Rulership Book by Rex Bills, Taurus has a long-term association with Persia (Iran). Talk about synchronicity. Have we heard anything about Iran lately?
1979 was the year of the Iranian Revolution. This was the overthrowing of the Shah, replacing Persia's monarchy with an Islamic Republic. Iran's oil production collapsed, oil prices spiked triggering a worldwide recession. Its noteworthy, and stunning that the nation of Iran's Chiron return will occur in 2028.
Then in 1980 there was the Iran/Iraq War. This initiated a further drop in oil production, triggering a worldwide recession this same year.
And let's not forget that in 1979, Three Mile Island occurred which was a meltdown at a nuclear plant. This sent shivers through the populace creating fear about energy security and environmental safety. Lest we forget, Taurus is an earth sign.
🏛️ Values, Beauty & Culture Wounding
Simultaneously with all of these financial gyrations, there was new level of puffery entering into the culture. Consumerism and materialism surged. In 1978 the TV series "Dallas" rolled out with its brazen theme about a wealthy, unhappy oil and cattle ranching family. Then in 1979 the fat cat arrived in the form of "Garfield" a lazy cat enjoying lasagna, pizza, coffee (over-indulgence, a theme of Venusian ruled Taurus).
In 1979 McDonald's launched the "Happy Meal" inserting rewards in the form of a toy into the eating experience. Also, in 1980 the previously cited "yuppies" emerged bringing with them Filofaxes, shoulder pads, big hair, spending lavishly.
And last but not least, it was in 1979 that China instituted its famous "one-child" policy under the cover of population control, representing a profound cultural shake-up.
Unfortunately, I could go on and on with further examples that tie directly into the presence of Chiron in Taurus, but the events cited no doubt provide more than enough context. Will we have a repeat these stressful and disruptive events? What will the June of 2026 through May 2034 version of this transit look like? Are we already seeing the forerunners unfolding now?
Not to be forgotten is the fact that Chiron is a healer. When in Taurus it seems the things, he lays bare, rips the proverbial band-aid off, and asks for us to examine are related to the themes cited. Topics like poverty and hunger, material security, heightened awareness of financial inequalities, a greater focus on our food and other resources, and last but certainly not least the rights of women and children. Watch for new pathways to appear that lead to healing surrounding these critical components of the human story.
On June 20th, the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Cancer, marking the Summer Solstice. Here we experience the longest day and the shortest night. This is the season of memories; a seasonal call to get in touch with our feelings and needs. Time spent with our families, whether it be our birth family or the tribe that beckons us is productive during the time the Sun visits Cancer.
Strikingly, on the same day as the Summer Solstice, June 20th, the great disruptor, harbinger of change, lord of revolution, and provider of inspirational insights, Uranus, will square the nodal axis. This leads me to muse upon what this Summer Solstice might mean in the larger view of things. Clearly, this could represent a karmic crossroads where the collective is being pushed to make a sudden, major shift in direction. Given that Uranus is now in Gemini, this seems like a very mental challenge, technologically driven, and requiring adaptation. Uranus in Gemini shouts the battle cry of revolution, often instigating events that are shocking. Stay tuned.
Adding to this narrative, we have the aggressive warrior Mars just a few days later on June 28th marching into the same sign of Gemini. This indicates that discussions will be forced into a field of multi-faceted perception. The wars of ideas will have its moment. Angry intellectual clashes will be possible. Mars wants to take action, and, in this case, it involves technological innovation.
Finally, on June 30th, the month comes to a dramatic close with big-bold Jupiter exploding into the sign of Leo. Philosophies and beliefs are presented theatrically, and the brightest of bright lights are focused on them. Higher truths and the meaning of it all ask for your attention, daring you to look away. Religion, faith, justice, wealth will all take center-stage until July 26, 2027.
You may have noticed that I did not address the new or full moons occurring in June. I will address these separately at a later time. The June New Moon will occur on June 14th in the sign of Gemini (adding to the previously mentioned, agitated Gemini energies) and the Full Moon will occur on June 19th in the sign of Capricorn.
Until next time, stay in the moment, and stop to smell the roses.
