Mars, North Node, Ceres

A Close One for the USA

The nodal axis, which is comprised of the North and South Nodes of the moon, shifted in January 2025 into the signs of Pisces and Virgo. I like to think of these shifts into new polarities as background music. A siren song of sorts, beckoning with sounds from the past and the future. With the North Node in Pisces and the South Node in Virgo we are   being urged to exchange the practical for the imaginative, reality for fantasy, and a focus solely on physical health for one that also encompasses healing at the soul level. This is definitely a clash of the details vs. the ethereal.

In reviewing the astrology of March 2026, an event occurring on March 13th caught my eye. Mars, currently domiciled in Pisces, will be at 8 degrees 41 minutes and in an aspect known as a conjunction with the North Node of the Moon at 8 degrees and 22 minutes on that day, a very tight aspect with only 19 minutes of separation. This will occur at 10:54 am in a chart cast for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; more on why in a moment.

Observing this, I was reminded of the way different overlapping cycles of planetary movements and other astrological points interact over time. In this instance, we have a nodal cycle lasting 18.6 years, and Mars, which spends around 1-2 weeks in Pisces every two years. When I notice certain celestial events, I often feel compelled to see how they might appear by transit in various charts. In this case, the chart for the United States, known as the Sibley chart, came to mind. Here is the USA Sibley Chart:

Immediately, I searched for anything in the USA's chart that was in the 8th degree of Pisces. There it was, Ceres in Pisces, 8 degrees and 41 minutes in the 3rd house. The actual conjunction mentioned above of Mars and North Node takes place at 2:06 am at 8 degrees 23 minutes of Pisces, and then a few hours later at 10:54 am that same Pisces Mars will be at 8 degrees and 41 minutes, in an exact conjunction with the USA's Pisces Ceres. The North Node moves 1 minute during that same time period and resides at 8 degrees and 22 minutes of Pisces (the nodes always move in a retrograde motion). This is the mere 19 minutes of separation mentioned earlier.

This sparked my curiosity as I pondered how frequently a Mars/North Node transit has aligned with the USA's Pisces Ceres. Additionally, I considered how often a transiting Pisces Mars has been in exact conjunction with this Ceres. To find this out, we need to analyze the period from July 4, 1776, to March 13, 2026, which spans 91,282 days. Upon investigation, I discovered that this alignment has occurred on only 7 days when Mars reached exactly 8 degrees 41 minutes, with the North Node in close proximity. Calculating this as a simple percentage, here is the math:

So, this event occurs on about 0.0077% of all calendar days since July 4, 1776, or roughly 1 day in 13,000 days. Here is a table of the transiting Pisces Mars/North Node is in exact conjunction with the USA's Pisces Ceres:

The 7 events above are spread across roughly 4-5 full 18.6-year nodal cycles (from 1821-2026). Instead of clustering randomly, they string along every 1-2 node cycles, suggesting that in this instance the Pisces 3rd-house Ceres point acts as a "nodal anchor" that this particular timeline keeps swinging back to when viewing it through the USA Sibley chart. The tightest clustering of these conjunctions falls in 1840 and 2026, both within 1 degree of 8 degrees and 41 minutes of Pisces. In world of astrology, the tighter an aspect the more profound its impact. These two years could be characterized as "high-signal" years where the triggering of the nation's Ceres is strongest by this Mars/North Node aspect. The other years listed above (1821,1859,1877, 1969, 2007) all represent periods when the North Node is still within a 4–7-degree orb of the 8-degree 41-minute Ceres anchor in this analysis. Even though this is a broader nodal arc, it is still tied to the same Pisces 3rd house themes. Think of it as an "echo" or "wake" of the tighter conjunctions that occurred in 1840 and the upcoming one on March 13, 2026. These were equally under the same influence of this Ceres-Mars-North Node signature.

With an explanation of the frequency with which these conjunctions occur now in context, it's time to explore the energies that may be at play. At the time of our nation's founding, Ceres was domiciled in the sign of Pisces at 8 degrees and 41 minutes in the 3rd house. Ceres, classified astronomically as a dwarf planet and historically recognized as the first asteroid discovered in the belt between Mars and Jupiter, represents themes of nurturance, caregiving, food systems, and agricultural cycles within astrology. Her symbolism extends to psychological patterns around giving and receiving care, as well as the dynamics of loss, separation, and reunion. Named for the Roman goddess of agriculture (the Greek Demeter), Ceres draws heavily on the Persephone myth, which encodes motifs of seasonal change, maternal grief, and the eventual restoration of equilibrium. When in Pisces, Ceres expresses that as sensitive, imaginative, spiritually compassionate care, with a tendency to blur boundaries and feel deeply the sorrows of the world.

When Pisces‑ruled Ceres falls in a nation's 3rd house, nurturing, food, care, loss, and cycles become collective issues seen in communication, media (including the internet), education, internal transportation, and local exchange. In mundane terms Ceres has a distinct bearing on the well-being of ordinary people, and research has proven it is one of the most important fundamental symbols of the spirit and practice of democracy. It can indicate the nation's relationships with nations with it shares land borders or very close sea borders. In summary, this house is the keeper of pathways, those that carry bodies and those that carry words. It rules the roads, bridges, and rails that guide our journeys, as well as the ships, vehicles, and wings that move us across earth, water, and sky. It governs the channels through which information travels: the printed page, the broadcast wave, the mailed letter, the spoken voice, and the digital web. It shapes the realms of media, storytelling, learning, language, and the crafting of thought. It also speaks to our rapport with neighboring lands and the losses that arise nearby through accidents or sudden tempests.

An intriguing aspect of the United States Pisces Ceres is that it is situated in an intercepted sign within our chart. This means that a zodiac sign, in this case Pisces, is entirely enclosed within a house and does not appear on any house cusp. In a national or mundane chart, an intercepted sign highlights collective themes that exist but are not overtly expressed in the nation's public identity or institutions. Additionally, the houses containing intercepted signs indicate the areas of life, in this instance the 3rd house/9th house, where underlying tensions, blockages, or long-standing unresolved issues tend to emerge indirectly or during crises. For the United States, this suggests underlying tensions in communications, local networks, and higher ideologies, where practical implementation often conflicts with idealistic or even unrealistic visions.

What does this say about Piscean energy's accessibility to the United States? Generally speaking, interceptions indicate that the energy is held more inwardly, cyclically, and indirectly, activating when certain conditions are met. The first condition that assists with how this energy is ultimately expressed is the status of the sign's ruling planet. What we find is that the ruler of Pisces, Jupiter is in its exaltation in the sign of Cancer and in a conjunction with Venus, another benefic, in the 7th house. Additionally, this strong Jupiter is in a favorable trine aspect to Pisces Ceres. This a definite positive for Ceres and Pisces. However, it's important to also note that in addition to being intercepted in Pisces, Ceres is also retrograde in the USA's founding chart. This is akin to a compounding of the interception energy, adding extra emphasis to the inward or delayed nature.

Digging deeper now, it's important to understand the nature of Ceres. It is a dwarf planet and is commonly recognized as the first asteroid discovered. It is the largest object in the asteroid belt, about 940 km in diameter, and contains roughly one‑third to 40% of the total mass of the asteroid belt. It takes 4.6 earth years for it to orbit around the Sun. Finally, it is composed of both rock and ice.

Having highlighted Ceres direct connection with nurturing and caregiving, food, body, and sustenance, loss, grief, and reunion, and cycles of growth it's time to examine what these look like when immersed in the waters of Pisces. One manifestation is nurturing taking on a more spiritual nature. Empathy and compassion being prominent. There is an emphasis on soothing, comforting, and “saving” others at a feeling or soul level, often wanting to heal suffering in a broad, sometimes universal way. This care can also take on an artistic tilt. It may emanate through music, art, stories, dreams, or spiritual practices, as if feeding others’ imagination and inner life is as important as physical food. The shadow of Pisces can also impact these expressions resulting in blurred boundaries in this same caregiving. For instance, the care may morph into self‑sacrifice, over‑identifying with victims, or taking on others’ pain. At its extreme the emergence of martyrdom can take hold.

Reflecting on how music, art, stories, and dreams have evolved in our country, one might reasonably conclude that we've experienced a disconnection or, at the very least, a difficulty in aligning with the spiritually sensitive, compassionate, and empathetic aspects of life. Our media, in its many forms in this modern age, has desensitized us, often pushing us into brief moments of empathy or compassion that last only 30-60 seconds before we move on. The "great quickening" might be more accurately described as the "great sickening." This information overload lacks deeper meaning, leaving the soul gradually submerged in indifference. Here, we may be observing the effects of a retrograde Pisces Ceres (hindered, impeded, and introspective), with Pisces energy in an intercepted sign, delaying its expression in some way.

In the realm of food and self-care, a more spiritual approach is possible. This might involve idealism, fasting or cleansing, or viewing eating through a spiritual or symbolic perspective. As a side note, I believe our modern culture desperately needs this. Food has become "BIG BUSINESS." We often have no idea where our food originates or what's in it. Simply pick up your phone, open the DoorDash app, and a meal magically appears on your doorstep. In the United States, the family meal has become extinct. Our ancestors would be amazed at what food has become. The spiritual understanding and appreciation of our food have been overshadowed by capitalistic thinking. We are suffering greatly as a result. Is this a reflection of this aspect of our nation's culture suffering due to Pisces energies being trapped in the aforementioned interception (causing tensions, blocks, and impediments) along with the retrograde status of Ceres? In this astrologer's opinion, absolutely. The shadow side of Pisces is escapism. Has food and nourishment become that and less about the higher meaning of fueling the body that carries our eternal souls?

Another observation that isn't always readily apparent is the fact that when a sign is intercepted and entirely enclosed in a house, it finds itself either totally surrounded by a masculine or feminine energy. In the case of Ceres in Pisces, and Pisces being the intercepted sign, we have the feminine trapped by the masculine on both sides, Aquarius (masculine, fixed, air) and Aries (masculine, cardinal, fire). How this manifests is that the trapped intercepted signs and planets are not only domiciled in a different gender energy but also modality and element. In this case, mutable water. As such, there is a sense of not being supported by the environment, resulting in a dissonant expression.

Another important consideration is Ceres' connection with the Demeter–Persephone myth, which illustrates themes of separation, mourning, and cyclical return, such as seasonal or emotional cycles. When reflecting on the emotional cycles of our nation, particularly the narratives we've constructed around them, I believe this reflects a Pisces Ceres retrograde intercepted in the 3rd house. This house represents our nation's stories, and the narrative shared over nearly 250 years of history. If we examine unresolved wounds related to the slaughter of Native American Indians, the Revolutionary War, Civil War, world wars, and numerous other conflicts, there is undoubtedly a discordant expression of emotions regarding these events. Have we suppressed, internalized, and perpetuated falsehoods to cope with the unresolved traumas of such immense suffering? I believe so, and at times, our nation's energies are activated to confront these issues and strive for improvement. Moreover, our media has played a big role in hindering our full understanding and processing of these narratives.

As we then consider the upcoming transit of a Pisces Mars/Pisces North conjunction to Ceres what should we expect? Think of it as an ignition point. An activation of a spiritual warrior mode infused with a karmic purpose. The North Node is associated with the pursuit of destiny, a siren call beckoning us on a path toward a higher understanding of who are and what we can become. It is the place where we have room to grow. The tension or background music is represented by the inherent tension between Virgo's hyper-tensive tendency to control the narrative, and likely in this case under the guise of some misguided duty, and the Piscean desire to trust, flow, and accept. Pisces asks us to have faith, be inspired, and move in the world in a compassionate manner. Life is nuanced rather perfect.

When this transit, Mars conjunct the Pisces North Node occurs it coincides with decisive events that call upon us to adopt courage as we strive toward our spiritual roots. This can be a time in which media/propaganda wars rise, a time of ideological clashes, and one in which rigid systems are being pulled on by the magnetic attraction of the North Node calling us to a more inspired collective evolution. It's noteworthy to mention that is particular aspect comes on the heels of the Virgo lunar eclipse on March 3rd. The overriding feeling I sense for this transit is that it's about the ignition of what seems to be a fated drive and reactionary quest for healing through better communication that is of a higher and wiser nature. This would be its highest manifestation.

Though Ceres is retrograde and positioned in an intercepted sign, it does receive positive influence from the ruler of the 3rd house (Aquarius on the cusp) which is an exalted Saturn in Libra positioned in the USA's 10th house, and it's ruling dispositor, Jupiter in Cancer in the 7th house, also exalted and in a trine aspect to Ceres. This bodes well for potential activations by transits of the USA's Ceres, but the inherent nature of an intercepted and retrograde Ceres cannot be ignored in the analysis. So, what types of mundane impacts might we see on the USA? I suspect that we could see bold and aggressive messaging wrapped in "spiritual warrior" rhetoric emanating from all sources of media. Viral campaigns and info wars. This could be a tricky time in that, as cited, Piscean energy like all the zodiac signs has a shadowy side. Things can get murky in Pisces mystical waters and at the extremes become delusional and bring about an undoing of the self, or in a mundane chart, a country. The potential for very aggressive religious fervor to emerge exists given a Pisces Mars natural tendency to illicit such actions.

Reflecting on the last occurrence of such a close aspect between a transiting Mars/North Node conjunction and the USA's founding chart in 1840, we observe a surge of religious movements vigorously utilizing media to advance their missions. The Millerite movement, which later influenced the formation of the Seventh‑day Adventists, is a notable example, gaining significant momentum that year. William Miller, a Baptist preacher, predicted the Second Coming of Christ would occur around 1843–1844, based on his interpretations of Daniel and Revelation. This is particularly intriguing when considering current events in March 2026, where some speculate that the ongoing conflict with Iran has implications related to the Second Coming. As noted on lineagejourney.com, "The movement was intensely apocalyptic, with followers selling possessions, quitting jobs, and preparing for the imminent end of the world. It drew tens of thousands across the U.S., with camp meetings and revival‑style preaching that felt urgent and confrontational." Could we witness a recurrence of such behavior in 2026? Or is it already happening?

How this connected with the media in 1840 was that one of the key players in the Millerite Movement, Joshua Himes, launched Signs of the Times, the first newspaper dedicated to Miller’s message, followed by dozens of other Millerite periodicals. Wikipedia indicates "by 1844, they had distributed over 5 million pieces of literature, using mass printing and cheap tracts to spread the “midnight cry” warning nationwide. This was cutting‑edge media strategy for the time, pioneered by evangelicals." What makes the Millerite Movement standout is that it morphed into urgent warnings of doom, calls to repent, and “prepare now” messaging felt forceful and confrontational, even if not physically violent like nativism. Again, this makes me wary of the current environment we find ourselves in. Might we see some new version of this updated for our advanced technological age?

In searching for potential health and nourishment issues during the 1840 period there were no specific "food-safety" scandals, like we are experiencing today, but there was a definite link to how one nourished themselves that took on a highly spiritual tone. In this shaman and astrologer's opinion, like so many things, religious movements can have their positive and negative aspects. In 1840 food concerns were more local and ad hoc in nature with such things as spoiled milk and water-borne disease being the focus. However, the religious fervor of the day was promoting the idea of "the body as a temple" and speaking out against overindulgence, drinking, and "impure" habits as being spiritually offensive. The teaching was a cleaner body makes a cleaner soul. This is something I agree with, and I suspect the recent movements in our country to reveal secrets about our food are part of a movement that will potentially be further activated by the upcoming Mars/North Node conjunction with Ceres.

Finally, I wondered what the Sabian symbol of 8 degrees 41 minutes of Pisces might have to say and how it might correlate this unique transit. Remember, when referencing Sabian symbols, one must always round up to the next degree which in this case is 9 degrees of Pisces. Given that this transit involves Mars, the planet of action, drive, ambition, self-assertion joining forces with the point of striving and destiny in the astrological world known as the North Node, I wasn't surprised to find the explanation of 9 degrees of Pisces as dictated by Elsie Wheeler to Marc Edmund Jones in 1925, in Balboa Park, San Diego, California being so on point:

THE RACE BEGINS: INTENT ON OUTDISTANCING HIS RIVALS, A JOCKEY SPURS HIS HORSE TO GREAT SPEED

This shows spurring to action when you need to, to rise to occasions that call for a sense of urgency or speed. Perhaps it’s time to extract all the energy possible into situations. The “Race” is on, and you may feel that you can make it to the finish but still are not guaranteed of victory. What efforts do you expend to push you faster and further than the rest of the field? Ensure that you’re not expending all your energy too quickly and not really achieving anything of lasting value. Be wary of bolting out of the gate without knowing what your objective is. Needing to win at all costs can have others feeling like you’re not really ‘in the race’ – just wanting to win. Competitiveness. High ambitions. Spontaneous reactions. The need for speed. The home run. Rivals and competitors. Issues of weight gain and loss. Exhilaration. Horse racing.

Galloping at full speed, prematurely. Far too ambitious. Jumping the gun. Running out of steam. Ruthless measures. Sabotaging other’s efforts. Addiction to speed.

To conclude, you might remember that the first word I chose when discussing the astrology of 2026 was Boomshakalaka. The year 2026 is not only marked by unique and rarely seen astrological configurations, but these configurations also signify the start of new beginnings, revolutionary movements, and paradigm-shifting developments. This is one of those historical periods where, years later, people look back and say, "that's when everything changed." Once more, by examining the upcoming Mars/North Node/Ceres aspect, we encounter something rare in nature and at its closest alignment since our nation's founding in 1776. This is just one of many such events in 2026, but it certainly deserves to be woven into our awareness, as echoes of past events may offer insights into the themes we can expect. The aforementioned Sabian symbol emphasizes the level of fervor and urgency that might arise in the discussed areas. Remain vigilant in your personal spiritual practices, as it is crucial to stay grounded and present during this time. Ensure you are doing everything possible to be more of an observer of developments rather than an active emotional participant in every dust cloud stirred up by the winds of this tumultuous year. Your piece of the larger picture is precisely that, yours; make it clear and beautiful.
